Meet Kimberly Bennett

Mother. Mentor. Community Advocate.

With more than 20 years of service to Athens families, I’m ready to bring my experience, compassion, and commitment to represent District 5 as Commissioner.

Athens has been home since I was 5 years old. I grew up in the Clarke County School District, raised my own children here, and have spent my life working alongside the people and organizations that make this community strong. I’m not just from Athens, I’m for Athens. Connected to our neighborhoods, rooted in our schools, and already serving the families and people of District 5.

Service has guided every step of my journey. From PTO President at Burney-Harris-Lyons to serving on the Parent Advisory Board, from leadership roles in the Junior League of Athens and the Junior League of Georgia State Public Affairs Committee to my current work on the Clarke Central High School Local School Governance Team, I’ve always believed in rolling up my sleeves and showing up for my community. My faith grounds me, and I’m honored to serve as a Trustee at Hill Chapel Baptist Church.

That same commitment to service has guided my education and my work in this community. Through the Athens-Clarke County Citizens Government Academy and the Police Citizens Academy, I gained firsthand insight into how our local government operates and how it can work better for all of us.

With a Master’s in Youth Development Leadership and as a current PhD candidate in Public Administration, I’ve deepened my understanding of how policies, systems, and responsible leadership shape real outcomes for families.

As a nonprofit leader and small business owner, I’ve seen how budgets, decisions, and resource allocation directly affect the people who call Athens home.

Mentorship, advocacy, and community partnership have been the heart of my work. These experiences have shaped my leadership, strengthened my resolve, and prepared me to represent District 5 with integrity and purpose.
Every role I’ve held has been a building block leading to this moment; a lifelong commitment to listening, learning, and serving. Now, I’m ready to continue that service as your Commissioner.

I’m running for District 5 Commissioner because I believe strong communities don’t just happen, they are built through connection, compassion, and collaboration. As your Commissioner, I will focus on helping families, youth, and local businesses thrive by improving access to resources, supporting workforce development, and building safer, more connected neighborhoods.

This is not about politics, it’s about people. Together, we can build a District 5 that listens, serves, and prepares our community for a better tomorrow.
